National Natural Landmark – Dismals Canyon, Coronavirus — National Natural Landmark – Dismals Canyon, The Canyon — National Natural Landmark – Dismals Canyon, National Natural Landmark – Dismals Canyon, In accordance with the State of Alabama’s most recent “Safer at Home” amendment and local government guidelines, Dismals Canyon will open all of its guest services, except the swimming pool, which will remain closed awaiting approval to reopen from the Governor’s Office and the Alabama Department of Public Health – effective Thursday July 16, 2020.
Dismals Canyon – located in Northwest Alabama – is an 85 acre (34 ha) Nature Conservatory privately owned and operated. It is not a State Park or National Park. However, it was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1975 by the National Natural Landmarks Program. NNLs are administered by the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.

Is it good for admission into Dismals Canyon? A. NO. Although Dismals Canyon is designated by the National Park Service as a NATIONAL NATURAL LANDMARK, it is not a State Park or National Park.
You may check in any time after 3:00 pm at the Dismals Canyon Country Store. All campers & Cabin guests must check in by 5 pm Sunday-Thursday & by 7 pm on Friday and Saturday or incur a $25.00 late check-in fee. Check-out time is 12:00 noon. There may be occasional check-in delays during times of heavy departure.

We were disappointed at the lack of trail markings, washed out bridges at creek crossings and much other neglected maintenance.
